The Secret to Quitting Drinking

Have you ever set parameters around drinking - broken them - and then said “Oh fu@% it”? Do you decide to not drink during the week, have a glass of wine on Monday, and throw the whole plan in the garbage? Do you promise yourself you'll only have 2 drinks at the party but then have a third so all bets are off? Here are a few thoughts on beginning again.

Beginning again, flattery will get you everywhere + tracking

Begin again

That's the secret. It's as simple as that. Forget perfection. Forget what you said you'd do. Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Face forward and begin again. And again. And again.

Flattery will get you EVERYWHERE

Have you ever seen your child or a friend, try and fail? Did you call them a dummy, tell them they suck and that they're destined for failure? No, you did not. You spoke kind words, encouraged them, and told them to keep trying. Can you speak to yourself as you would to your best friend or a child? Quitting drinking is no easy task and it takes momentous amounts of self-love and kindness. Beating yourself up every time you slip up will only hold you back. Believe me, the road to sobriety is paved with self-compassion 🛣️💗

Habit tracking

I've written here before that every Monday feels like a fresh page with a sharpened pencil. I love a fresh start and I love a habit tracker. Whether it's on an app or paper, tracking is a good motivator to continue habits + it provides good data for tweaking those habits or creating new ones.
